1. Ensure Australia's continued elite sporting success
- Examine government frameworks to ensure an on-going focus on grassroots and community sport and physical activity. The role of local government and schools in providing facilities in/on which organised sport is conducted cannot be overlooked or under-estimated. Whilst State and Federal grants are available to provide new facilities there are few funding sources available to maintain or improve existing facilities owned or managed by local government.
- Examine Government programs to increase participation rates in sport and physical activity, including analysis of existing programs. At a grass roots level, particularly outside large urban centres, it seems to fall on local government to accommodate increased participation rates in sports and physical activities. When a particular sport becomes more popular this can put pressure on existing facilities with the consequence of reducing the quality or safety of sporting venues.
2. Better place sport and physical activity as a key component of the Government's preventative health approach

3. Strengthen pathways from junior sport to grassroots community sport right through to elite and professional sport
